Meet the Team: Associate Designer Ryan Harnish

Ryan Harnish is the newest member of the GOAT team, joining us this summer as an Associate Designer. Our “Meet the Team” blog series gives readers an inside look at each team member and what they like to do inside and outside of the office.

Born and raised in Chicago, Ryan graduated from Tulane University School of Architecture in 2023 with a Bachelor of Architecture. He first took an interest in architecture through the intricate brick and terra-cotta detailing throughout Chicago. While at Tulane, Ryan worked in the Millhaus, the school’s CNC milling lab, and participated in the URBANbuild program, both of which gave him a strong appreciation for material fabrication and assembly. On his days off, he enjoys experimenting with baking bread or exploring New Orleans via one of the city’s craft breweries.

Here’s how he answered our team questions:

Who is your favorite architect and/or designer?

New Orleans-based architectural design firm’s new Associate Designer, Ryan Harnish.

Since I first came across his practice, I keep coming back to the work of Smiljan Radic. Every one of his projects is a unique and creative solution, exploring form and material, which is what draws me to his work.

What would be your dream project?

I have always dreamed of buying and renovating my own two-flat in Chicago.

What design trend do you hope makes a comeback?

Sleeping porches!

What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with no preparation?

The importance of strong public transportation for healthy cities.

What is your favorite local hangout?

Miel Brewery. Great beer and vibes, in one of the best beer gardens in NOLA.

If someone were visiting the city for the first time, what neighborhood would you take them to first and why?

I would take them to the Bywater for a day at Crescent Park and to sample the neighborhood’s many bars and restaurants.
What’s your favorite hobby right now? What hobby have you always wanted to take up?

Recently, watching movies, but I have wanted to get into photography for years.

What’s your most used emoji?
