Project Spotlight: A Contemporary Residential Development Nestled in the Woods
GOAT project Harvest Park is a contemporary residential development nestled into the dense woodlands on the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain outside of New Orleans.
Developed in conjunction with frequent GOAT collaborator Ted Enterprises, the initial phases of the project will feature five to 10 modern homes. The homes will range from single bedroom and studio sized cabins to large, multi-bedroom vacation lodges.
Each site will be designed to fully embrace its natural setting, allowing residents and visitors alike to escape the city and envelop themselves in the natural beauty of St. Tammany Parish. The development will also have a number of shared amenities like a fishing pond, swimming pool, and event pavilion.
The architecture of the development will employ familiar residential forms like the gable and simple shed roof that are easily constructible and recognizable. To create outdoor “rooms” the GOAT design team (Colin VanWingen, Peter Spera III, Paula Bechara, Joanna Tanasescu) niches are carved into these forms creating moments of interest and repose.
Exposed framing and natural wood accents exude warmth and comfort while also maintaining a natural connection to the surroundings. The openings are large and look out into vegetated vistas, allowing the surrounding forest to act as a secondary interior “finish”.
