Project Spotlight: A Bold Art Deco-Inspired Entertaining Space in New Orleans
The owners of a spectacular house at the end of Audubon Boulevard in Uptown New Orleans had recently completed a renovation of their home save for an annex wing that overlooked the pool and garden. They approached GOAT with a unique challenge: to create a truly unique experience through a bold and dramatic space to entertain, show off their eclectic taste, and include as many “wow” elements as possible.
After exploring a number of potential directions, GOAT proposed a vision for the space that pulled significant inspiration from 1920s Art Deco graphic design, art, and architecture.
“It's not often that we at GOAT are challenged by a client to push the boundaries of a proposed design even beyond what we initially envision,” explained GOAT co-founder and Principal Colin VanWingen. “The owner urged the design team to consider every inch of the space, to explore every possible opportunity to add a special touch, and the result is a truly dazzling room unlike any other.”
The central focal point of the project is the custom designed waterfall stone-clad bar with radiating polished brass banding and integrated illumination. GOAT worked alongside general contractor Portico Construction and Classic Brassworks and Mediterranean Tile on the bar fabrication.
Other elements of the project include a spectacular dodecagon shaped skylight at the center of the room, glass French doors leading to the courtyard, and a custom Art Deco themed pattern that pulls the entire project together. In keeping with the client’s bold vision for the space, the finish palette for the space is vibrant and luxe.
